Realizing the importance and potential of the
horticulture sector in the economy of Pakistan, the
government was motivated by the need of new approach
to vitalize this sector and found it crucial to establish
an organization, which would specifically focus horticulture
sector. “Pakistan Horticulture Development
& Export Board” (PHDEB) was originally
conceived in November 2000, but was formally established
as an autonomous corporate body under the Ministry of
Commerce, Government of Pakistan on August 2002 under
the notification No. 1(12)/2002/Wxp.V.
Pakistan Horticulture Development and
Export Board have been created due to the enormous potential
but relatively insubstantial contribution of Pakistan’s
horticulture products in the global market. In the absence
of a single ministry of institution responsible for
development at all levels of the horticulture value
chain it was considered important to uplift this sector,
especially in light of the impact of globalization and
WTO regime.
OUR VISION
PHDEB envisions the vitalization of a
dynamic, open and market driven horticulture sector, which
would transform in to a resilient and sustainable sector,
equipped to meet the challenges of globalization by creating
a niche in the international market.
Mandate
The over all mandate of PHDEB is to
promote, regulate, co-ordinate and improve the export
of horticulture products to improve the economic well
being of all the stake holders in the horticulture value
chain. The main thrust is to put Pakistan in the high-end
international markets through strong marketing efforts
along with integrated interventions and facilitation
in all the sub-sectors of the value chain. |
