POST HARVEST CARE OF MANGOES

  • Harvest variety at appropriate time. Early or late picking will deteriorate the quality.
  • A void harvesting immature fruits.
  • Remove field heat.
  • Pick early in the morning. However, flow of latex will be more at that tim( Leave a stem of 1.5 cm and trimmed back to 2-3 mm at packing.
  • Heat treatment at 50-55 C for 5 min reduce anthracnose.
  • Vapor heat treatment at 46 C for 20 min reduce fruit fly infection.
  • For export cool the mango at 10 C for 4-6 hours within 24 hours.
  • Select fruit more than 220 g for export
  • Fruit should be wrapped in tissue paper in single layer in strong white carton
  • Box should have enough holes for ventilation.
